Producers of the Eastern Canada Leather Sir / Leatherboy contests today announced a restructuring of the Eastern Canada region to create three new regions within the International Leather Sir / Leatherboy (ILSb) and Community Bootblack (ICBB) contest family. The Eastern Canada region has been comprised of Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada, and since 2005 has been produced by Brandon Matheson and Dan Falkenham.

Effective immediately, the Eastern Canada region will be replaced with the Atlantic Canada region (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland), the Quebec region (Quebec), and the Central Canada region (Ontario).

“The change better reflects the geographical reality of the provinces involved. We also wanted to address the reality that the ECLSb contest has been Ontario centric. Since its inception in 2003, ECLSb has only fielded two contestants from outside Ontario. ILSb is going through a process of revitalization and change and will be increasing the number of regions in the United States as well, so the timing is perfect,” says Matheson.

There are three sections to this Editorial

1. My response to the situation.

2. The ILSLb ICCB board letter with changes to policy that was released on September 27, 2013.

3. A copy of the September 20, 2013 letter that was sent out to the ILSLb ICCB board and producers. The Leather Journal requested, and was granted permission to publish the letter in its entirety.

Up until now I have stayed out of the fray over the International Leather Sir, Leatherboy and Community Bootblack situation because I wanted to allow more facts to come out after the emotional storm passed, and because I am the producer of an International Leather contest and do not want to appear as making an effort to capitalize on a bad situation.

Northwest Leatherboy 2012 Danny Carpenter has stepped aside from his title for personal reasons. Dan McGuire former Northwest Leatherboy from 2010 has accepted the title and joined the 2012 title team of Northwest Leather Sir Jim Drew and Northwest Community Bootblack Ruin.

Dan represented his region at International Leather Sir, Leatherboy and Community Bootblack in San Francisco.
