By July 31, 2014

M Leather Ottawa Jon Nizi By Daniela Plume WebOn the evening of Thursday, July 24, 2014, the Ottawa Leather/Kink/Pup communities were shocked to learn of the death of Mr. Leather Ottawa 2014 Jon Nizzi. "Nizzi," as he was affectionately called by his many friends, had been a driving force in the various communities since moving from Toronto in 2013. In November of 2013, Jon won the Mr. Leather Ottawa title and went on to compete in the International Mr. Leather contest in May 2014, where he placed in the top 20 of a field of 46.

As news of his death became known late Thursday night, messages of grief, tribute and condolence from friends across North America and in the international Leather community had begun to fill his Facebook profile.

“With a smile from knowing you and quite a few tears I’m headed to bed; glad that you’ll rest well brother. (Pats and scritches) We will make sure Loki’s taken care of,” wrote International Mr. Leather 2012 Woody Woodruff.

A poignant photo of the Leather Pride flag flying at half mast was posted by Ms Leather Toronto 2013 Youkali Youkali.

“Jon, my Canadian brother, a kindred spirit. I am in shock and sad beyond belief. Thank you for the gifts that you gave me and so many,” wrote Patty, International Ms Leather 2014.

On Sunday, July 27, 2014, Jon Nizzi's partner Steve Loki released this official statement:

"On Thursday, July 24, 2014 Jon Nizzi made the final decision to take his life. We, his family, care for him greatly and we wish him well as he transcends the physical realm. He leaves behind his faithful companion, Cerberus aka Cerby, as well as his loving partner, Steve Loki. He has rippled through our community in a positive light, touching countless lives and hearts throughout the world. Both in his work as Mr. Leather Ottawa, but also as a good soul that worked to protect and bring people together.

Those who he touched the deepest will forever remember his smile and his radiating energy, an energy that could soothe any soul and calm any heart. His generosity in reaching out and be by the sides of those who needed a helping hand and paw, he was always there to provide them with endless strength.

He came into the community to mend fences and do the hard work, and although his work is not complete, he provided us all a great base to develop together. It is with extremely heavy hearts, that we say goodbye to his physical form, yet we will all welcome with open arms his spirit that will continue to help us all grow.

Nizzi was a man of few resources, for those wish to assist in the costs associated they have set up a gofundme account in his honor at http://www.gofundme.com/NizziMemorial/ All monies raised over the costs will be donated to Royal Ottawa Hospital and Friendly Giants Animal Rescue."
